When green tea is not healthy

Mums to be should be aware that drinking green tea during pregnancy is not recommended. It has been found in a study that drinking green tea can affect your ability to utilise folic acid for foetal development. While green tea is renowned for its health benefits and its lower caffeine levels, some mums to be, trying to reduce caffeine intake during pregnancy, may think that it is a good substitute for black tea or coffee.

Folic acid is a very important ingredient in the development of baby and for this reason, the researchers recommend mums to be to reduce it or stop drinking green tea entirely. Green tea is not the only herbal tea that can be harmful to mums to be, raspberry leaf tea which can induce labour, anise, camomile and lemongrass.
