Subject Description: |
Tuina is the Official Medical Chinese Bodywork therapy that was developed in
China over 3,000 years ago and known as needle-less acupuncture. It is an
integral part of the healthcare system in hospitals throughout China today.
It works with the energy system in the body known as the meridian system. |
| |
|
Like Acupuncture, Tuina works with the Qi energy of the patient to bring a
balanced state of health. But unlike, acupuncture, needles are not used. The
work is done entirely with the practitioner's hands to help increase the
beneficial flow of Qi through the patient's meridian system. |

Aim of Course: |
To enable participants to obtain a Practitioners Diploma in Tuina Chinese
medical acupressure, which certifies their competence to diagnose and treat
a wide variety of health conditions according to Traditional Chinese Medical
theory in a Holistic way. |

Entry Level: |
The course is designed for qualified acupuncturists and others with suitable
qualifications in Traditional Chinese Medicine with an explicit interest in
studying a complementary therapy that they can use in helping others within
the community. |

It is also a pre-requisite for all participants to adhere to a practitioner

Duration: |
The course can be completed over 6 monthly weekends on a flexible part-time
basis. (Saturday and Sunday) |

Progression to Clinical Internship in China, gaining invaluable experience
learning from famous doctors in some of the busiest hospitals in China. |

The College |
Active Health Foundation was established to provide
authentic and superior training for the enquiring student, based on
Traditional and Natural Medical Principals. We are affiliated with the
prestigious W.H.O. Collaborating Centre Beijing University of Traditional
Chinese Medicine, who recognize our qualifications. |

membership of W.F.A.S. the World Federation of professional Acupuncture
Societies, with members in more than fifty three countries. |

Academic Principals |
Active Health Foundation has developed comprehensive
training programs in (TCM) Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and
Complementary Therapies, with the guidance and assistance from Beijing
University of Traditional Chinese Medicine and our associated colleges. We
have benefited from many years experience in Holistic medicine education
from experienced clinicians and tutors both in Europe and China. |

The undergraduate syllabus is based on the primary TCM
course as taught in the four main W.H.O. collaborating centres in China. |

Active Health Foundation has a strong academic background
with the majority of our lecturers, either from our associated colleges in
China, graduates of the TCM degree programs in England, and all have
undergone clinical training in China. All our lecturers are experienced,
many of them acknowledged experts in their own subjects. |

Active Health Foundation is one of the advisory colleges
asked to participate in forming the registration legislation for
complementary medicine practitioners and therapists in Ireland by the Dept.
of Health & Children. |

Principal of Training |
Our goal and mission is to produce skilled, caring and
qualified practitioners of Traditional Chinese Medicine, who are not only
competent in Traditional medicine, but are clinically proficient in Western
medicine, ensuring their patients the best possible care and treatments. |

All our programs are designed for flexibility to
accommodate working individuals and our training sessions mostly take place
on weekends. |
| |
|
The training schedule requires 11 monthly contact
lectures with your lecturer. There is a requirement of 10 hours per week
group and home study. |

Our students are expected to observe the code of ethics
and code of practice of Active Health Foundation and its associated bodies,
both in their relations with colleagues and the class or clinic patients. |

The course syllabus, its academic structure and the number of hours have
been designed to meet the stringent requirements of the Chinese Academic
Authority, through their principal college, Beijing University of Chinese
Medicine. |

The course syllabus meets with the training requirements of Tui Na Ireland,
the professional regulatory body for Tui Na practitioners. |
| |
|
The course structure is the only course in Ireland that meets with the
training schedule as laid down by the World Health Organisation for
practitioners of Tui Na. |

Lecturers & Tutors: |
Dr. Zhang Wei Hui of Shanghai University is lecturing our 3rd and 4th. year
acupuncture students. Dr. Zhang comes to us from Shanghai Peoples Hospital
where he was a member of the teaching staff since 1982. |

|
James O'Sullivan has a busy practice in Chinese Medicine in Galway and
Dublin. He also teaches in Dun Laoghaire VEC. He is a visiting lecturer to
Zhe Jiang University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. He studied under
Master Hung Shui Chen in Taiwan in 1987 and gained considerable clinical
experience in Nanjing TCM hospitals in China. He also holds qualifications
from ITEC and in Amatsu Medicine. |

Michael Lau is a prominent Tui Na master from Hong Kong and has earned much
respect here in Ireland through his Tai Chi and Qi Gong schools. |

Hung Shui Ying has a busy practice in Chinese Medicine in Galway. She is a
respected Tui Na master from Taiwan and a master practitioner in Chinese
Nutrition therapy, Gua Sha therapy and Medical Qi Gong. |
